Spindle/Beam Info

‘55-’67 Link Pin
‘68-’79 Ball Joint

‘55-’69 have same bolt pattern at frame mounting point.
‘70-’79 different bolt pattern than the earlier style.

‘55-’63 Torsion arms/link pins 20mm
‘63-’67 Torsion arms/link pins 22mm

‘55-’63 early spindles
-Torsion arms/link pins 20mm
-22mm king pins
-”Straight” spindle shaft
-brakes more expensive.

‘63-’67 late spindles
-Torsion arms/link pins 22mm
-24mm king pins
-”Tapered” spindle shaft
-cheaper brakes.
-(preferred spindle to run on a Bay LP conversion)

*Note ‘63 is a transition year*

(May have 20mm link pins and “Tapered” spindle shaft)

‘66-’67 Beams
-Outer needle bearings (Inner bushings)
-Torsion arms have “caps”
-Torsion leaf ends are NOT welded.

‘55-’70 drum brakes.
‘71-’79 disc brakes.

‘71-’72 caliper uses “thin” pads and has smaller (Holes close together) mounting point
‘73-’79 caliper uses “thick” pads and has larger (Holes further apart) mounting point

‘63-’79 have the same spindle shaft, so you can mount disc brakes on late drum spindles with a bracket to mount the caliper.

E-Brake Cable Spacers

‘64-’67 Bus
-Stock cables w/ cable spacers

Late ‘60 to ‘63 Bus
-’64-’67 cables w/ cable spacers

‘56-Early ‘60
-Must install a Late ‘60-’63 or ‘64-’67 hand brake assembly.
-’64-’67 cables w/ cable spacers

**Depending on cable manufacturer you may need to trim as much as 3″ off of cable spring.**
